Micro blogging platform Twitter had removed 2.5 million accounts from the platform between March 26 and April 25 last month. Now coming into action mode, the company has once again banned 11,32,228 accounts. This action has been taken between 26 April to 25 May.

Twitter said that the Indian accounts that have been banned were accused of promoting child sexual exploitation, harassment, hate speech, defamation and sensitive adult content. In addition, 1,843 accounts promoting terrorism have also been removed from the platform.

Due to this strict action was taken

The company said in its monthly report that it had received 518 complaints from Indian users during the April-May time frame, after which the decision to ban the accounts was taken. Let us tell you that under the new IT Rule 2021, giant tech companies with more than 5 million users have to file reports every month, in which it has to be told what steps were taken and what decisions were taken in the interest of the users.

The company had banned a total of 25,53,881 Indian accounts between March and April before banning more than 11 lakh accounts. During this period, the company had received 158 complaints, keeping in mind that strict action was taken. All these accounts violated the rules as well as promoting abuse/harassment (83), sensitive adult content (41), hateful conduct (19) and defamation (12).

50 lakh fine imposed

Remind that last year the government had ordered Twitter to block some accounts and tweets, against which the company appealed in the Karnataka High Court. Now the court has rejected this appeal and imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh on Twitter. The court said that the company was fined because it violated the IT Rules 2021 and did not take any action on the notice sent by the government.

Union Minister of State Rajeev Chandrashekhar said that many Twitter accounts and tweets were asked to be removed from the platform under Section 69(A) of the IT Act 2000, but Twitter did not take any action. For this reason the company was fined and the company’s petition was also cancelled.
